In Few words

We are a group of young musicians who share their love for Kurdish folk music. With the concept of “music everywhere” we want to spread our music and culture across all borders. We remix our childhood songs to send the message of happiness and peace.

Ferhad and Hozan are the nucleus of Danuk. Friends from the same neighborhood in Hassake, Syria, they share the same upbringing in which Kurdish songs were played in all the occasions and festivities. They played guitar and bouzouki since that time, and then continued to Music college in Homs. By mixing the knowledge of studying their instrument in an academic way and the tunes they knew so well from their childhood, they came to the idea of reediting Kurdish folk songs.

In 2012, when revolution turned to war, they both moved to Istanbul. On the streets of their new city they continued to play Kurdish music. During this time Ferhad started to sing and they also met two other members of the band.

Gül, from Malatia, plays “mey” which is considered one of the most traditional Kurdish instrument, alongside the “erbane” that Faysal –originally from Batman-  plays.

The band of four from Mesopotamia, together with some other friends as collaborators, form Danuk: a Kurdish folk music project for happiness and positive energy in these times of war, when these feelings are most needed.
